PUZZLE DESIGNED FOR THE LIBRARY
Burke B. Hazelrigg, formerly of Allegan, Michigan, and now living in Jacksonville, has created one of his wood puzzles for the Library.
The puzzle is made of six interlocking pieces of yellow pine, each six inches long. Each piece carries Mr. Hazel- rigg's name, the date on which he made the puzzle, and a scripture reference. The Library puzzle pieces also carry the words "Jacksonville Public Library" and "Jacksonville, Texas."
There is only one correct way to link the six pieces. Hazelrigg has a selection of wooden puzzles, each of which can only be solved in one manner.
If you want to try your hand at solving the Library's puzzle, just ask at the circulation desk.
Should you become too frustrated, you can ask the Library for the solution. Fortunately, the carver also donated a diagram showing how to assemble the pieces correctly!
Not so helpful was Simon Brett, author of The Christmas Crimes at Puzzel [sic] Manor. After setting, and solving, 16 puzzles throughout the narrative of the story, the author leaves the final puzzle for the reader to solve!
Thanks to Mr. Hazelrigg for this unique contribution to the Library's collection!

Holiday arrangements will be the centerpiece as the Library resumes its "Lunch 'N' Learn" noon series.
Bo Prince, owner of Victoria's Garden in downtown Jacksonville, will talk about and demonstrate arrangements suitable for the approaching holiday seasons.
The presentation will begin at noon on Thursday, November 2, and end by 1 p.m. The Library will furnish tea and coffee. Audience members are invited to "brown bag" their own lunches and join friends in the Library auditorium.
If you have suggestions for future Lunch 'N' Learn programs, please share them with Library director Barbara Crossman.
