LOOKING AHEAD TO 2001

The bylaws of Friends permit the current directors to elect other directors to fill vacancies and to create more positions on the board.

Claudine Mellinger's term as a director will end when 2000 closes. Fortunately for the Library, her service continues as chairperson of the board of trustees and a dedicated worker.

Along with Dona Ralston and Barbara Greig, Claudine "kept Friends going." All of us should express our gratitude to Claudine for her past and ongoing service to the Library and to Friends.

To continue, Friends needs at least one member to offer to serve as a director. The position is not onerous, and much can be accomplished with a minimum of time-consuming meetings.

If more than one person offers to serve, the bylaws accommodate increasing the board to more than three members.

Having both experienced and new persons in leadership can only be beneficial to an organization. If you will consider serving as a director, please contact Frances Whiteside at 589-8253 for details.

We particularly urge persons who joined Friends in 2000 to consider this invitation. Your input is welcome!
