MEET YOUR LIBRARY STAFF

A regular feature of Library Now! will be a profile of the staff members. This month, meet Jo Jones.

How long have you worked in the library?
I started on February 17, 1999.

In what area do you usually work?
I'm the children's librarian.

What are you currently reading?
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling. (Harry can ride his broom- stick better than I can ride mine.)

What book do you recommend?
The Bible.

What web site do you recommend?
The Cyber-Seuss Page at http://www.afn.org/~afn15301/drseuss.html.

What do you do in life beside work at the library?
I have a family - my husband, David, and two boys. Willie is 20, and Ben is 17. We like to stay at home and work around the land. We play tennis.

What do you find satisfying about work at the library?
Working with all the children. Storytime is a highlight of my week. We meet every Wednesday at 10:30. I read to eight daycare groups a week. In all, I read to about 360 children a week.

What is your "dream wish" for the library?
To be able to buy all the books I want for the children's library.

Evelyn Bailes, a member of the board of trustees, is the Library's lay representative to the Northeast Texas Library System.

What is your term on the board?
Until June of this year.

By which councilman were you appointed?
Richard Starr

What are you currently reading?
Celebration by Fern Michaels

What book do you recommend?
The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw. I received this book for Christmas, and I enjoyed it very much.

What do you do in life beside serve on the library board?
I am retired now. For almost 15 years, I managed the Lon Morris College bookstore. Before that I worked for ten years as a teacher's aide at the First UMC Readiness School.

Why do you serve on the library board?
I was called to serve and I had the time, so I agreed.

What is your "dream wish" for the library?
More space and new carpet
