MEET YOUR DIRECTORS
Besides serving on the Board, Dona Ralston is curator of the Vanishing Texana Museum.
What is your term on the board?
I have served on the board for five years. My current term is from October 1998 to October 2001.
By which councilman were you appointed?
Richard East
What are you currently reading?
Twenty Blue Devils by Aaron Elkins
What book do you recommend?
For light reading, I like mysteries; for more serious, I like history. Two of my favorites, both available at the library, are King of the Confessors by Thomas Hoving and Somerset
Homecoming by Dorothy Spruill Redford.
What do you do in life besides serve on the Library board?
I worked 11 years at the library before retirement. I enjoy being a member of a handbell
choir. I have two young grandsons who take a lot of my time. I always have several handwork projects going: knitting, needlepoint, or cross-stitch.
Why do you serve on the Library board?
The continuing growth and improvement of the Library is important to me, and I hope my
service on the board helps.
What is your "dream wish" for the Library?
I would like to see the museum have its own building, with the museum space used for the
genealogy collection or for the computers.

Janis Robinson was recently appointed to her second term on the board.
By which councilman were you appointed?
Harold Alexander
What are you currently reading?
Harlequin romances
What book do you recommend?
The Green Mile (by Stephen King)! It shows the public that people are sometimes wrongly convicted. The system knows it, but it has to continue its process in order to show the people it was right, even though it was wrong. It shows people don’t know how to say, "We made a
mistake."
What do you do in life besides serve on the Library board?
I am a proof operator at Austin Bank. I am a member of the alumni association of the Jacksonville Citizen Police Academy. I am a major for the United Fund, and for the last 14 years, I have participated in the March of Dimes.
Why do you serve on the Library board?
I enjoy hearing about the different meetings Mrs. Crossman attends and learning how many people
use the computers and read the books.
What is your "dream wish" for the Library?
To have new carpet throughout the library, and to be able to have plenty of computers for the public so no one will have to wait.
NEW DIRECTORS APPOINTED
By action of the City Council, Melissa Cudd and Mary Jane Pate have joined the board of trustees of the Library.

NEW COMPUTERS FOR THE NEW YEAR!
Three Gateway computers purchased with money from the city budget have been installed to replace the very, very old ones that have been available for word processing. The new machines
have Works 2000®, Word®, and Encarta® installed. Far faster than the old computers, they have color monitors and are attached to a shared HP DeskJet® printer. Best of all, they are more reliable than the three old ones!
By mid-January, the four computers given by the Gates Foundation will be installed. Three have English servers, and one has a Spanish server.
