The 2001 summer reading program for children ages 18 months through the fifth grade kicked off June 6.
Children's librarian Jo Jones, known for her creativity, has planned a variety of stories, games, and crafts for each age group. She has decorated the audito- rium with great imagination to set the Aunder the sea@ scene for the summer theme, "To the Library and Beyond."
Tuesday is set aside for kindergarten through fifth grade. Children who will be in kindergarten and grades 1 or 2 in August are welcome from 10:30 to 11 a.m. From 11 a.m. to noon, activities will focus on the children going into grades 3, 4, and 5.
On Wednesday, children ages 18 months through preschool will have a special time from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
From 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, there will be a surprise special event, such as a movie, for all ages.
Registration forms are available at the Library circulation desk. The session will end on July 11.
FRIENDS FUND SOUND SYSTEM
Based on the recommendation of the Library director, the directors of Friends voted to fund the purchase of a portable sound system that will include a lavalier (lapel) microphone. We hope this system will make speakers in the auditorium more audible, particularly when the speaker is a child.
