| FRIENDS FUND DIES AND HOLDERS
Based on the recommendation of the Library director, the directors of Friends voted to fund the purchase of a various dies and other craft materials for use in the children's program, together with a holder designed to contain these items.
Dear Friends of the Library,
A special thank you for your generous gift to the library. The new addition of die cuts and die cut holder is greatly appreciated. These items will be put to very good use.

Brent Stahelin and Robert Gonzalez have accepted appointments to the Library's board of trustees.

The names of three Friends were erroneously omitted from those who worked for the book sale. Thanks and apologies to Evelyn Bailes, Mary Frances Childress, and Dona Ralston.

RAFFLE TICKETS NOW ON SALE
Tickets are now available at the Library circulation desk for one of two prizes in connection with opening of the film Fellowship of the Rings on Wednesday, December 19. The film is the first of a trilogy of J.R.R. Tolkien's famous series to be adapted for the screen.
Two raffle tickets will be drawn, with the owner of the first drawn getting his or her choice of two prizes. One prize is two tickets to the film, donated by Jackson Cinema 3, together with dinner for two at the Golden Corral, donated by that restaurant. Another prize is a boxed CD set of the entire trilogy, donated by the Library.
Tickets are $5 each. The winners will be drawn on Saturday, December 15, and notified promptly.

Through the Texas State Library TexShare Discovery system, card holders at the Library can now access a host of databases at no cost.
You will need a password, which you may obtain at the circulation desk. The librarians will help explain how you can access the information from your home computer, using the Library's account.
Thereafter, you may visit the web site http://www.netlibrary.com at your convenience to access electronic books, and databases from your home.
Following is a description of some of the databases available.
ArchivesUSA offers original source materials from more than 5,400 archival libraries. These include genealogy and local history, digital maps, and 20th century English and American poetry.
The Digital Map Collection includes maps of Jacksonville drawn at various times during the 20th century. You can capture on your screen how the city was laid out and how it changed as years passed.
The Big Chalk Database at eLibrary Classic offers information on books, television shows, newspapers, map, and photo collections. Full-text articles are included.
