BUY A BOOK FOR THE CARPET!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE RAFFLE WINNERS!

Mary Kay Brown won the boxed set of compact discs with readings of the complete J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy, Lord of the Rings. "My entire family will enjoy this," said the winner. "We are all Tolkien readers."

Carole H. Cook won two tickets to the film, Fellowship of the Ring, donated by Jackson Cinema 3, together with dinner for two at the Golden Corral, donated by that restaurant.

Thanks to the Library, Jackson Cinema 3, and the Golden Corral for their generosity. Thanks also to all who bought raffle tickets and supported this fundraiser!

ANNUAL MEETING

Although the normal course of business for Friends is conducted by its board of directors, the bylaws call for an annual business meeting of the members to be held. The 2002 annual meeting will be held on Thursday, February 7, at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Library.

Agenda items will include a report on the financial status of the corporation and notes on its 2001 donations to the Library and the Literacy Council. If you have any item you wish placed on the agenda, please notify Frances Whiteside (589-8253) by January 31.

  THANKS: YOU’RE A TRUE FRIEND!

If you have not yet renewed your Friends membership for 2002, you will see below a Round Tuit for you to get. Why? Because, if you haven't renewed, you need to get a Round Tuit and sup-port the Library.

[ROUND TUIT]

You can leave a check at the Library circulation desk or mail it to Friends at 502 South Jackson, Jacksonville, TX 75766.

Dues remain at low rates: $5 for an individual, $10 for a family, and $25 for a patron.

A life membership, which includes your name on a plaque in the Library, is $100.

The directors of Friends have voted to direct all the profits from the 2002 book sale to re-carpeting the Library. The chief contributor to this project is the City of Jacksonville. Other funding will come from a Texas State Library Loan Star grant and Wal-Mart.

Because of the projected carpeting and moving of books that must precede it, the annual book sale has been rescheduled to Saturday, February 16, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The sale will be open to members of Friends the previous Friday evening from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Help is needed to set up the display tables between 1 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday, February 13-15, to staff the sale table at the Friday evening preview, to staff the sale table all day Saturday, and to pack unsold items on Sunday afternoon, February 17. If you can donate time on these days, please call Frances Whiteside at 589-8253.

This will be Whiteside's last year to manage the book sale. Any member interested in training to chair or co-chair the 2003 sale can step forward and walk through the 2002 sale as a learning time. Please call 589-8253 if you are willing to volunteer for this responsibility.
